Hal Helmboldt When we look at distant stars, we are seeing them as they were 50 million (or billion) years ago. Yet, it is said that a star producing a gamma ray burster can't be seen until the light reaches us, and by then it's too late, so it goes.

We can see stars millons of years back in time, but we can't also see somewhere between that time and our current time that a gamma ray burster took place at some moment in time in-between? Why not? I don't understand why not. Does anyone know why not?
