Lily Pi A root question: It's been 3 years since I re-potted my heartleaf rhododendron the leaf size and vine length has been unimpressive; it was neither leggy nor wilted, the little pale-ish leave grew close in distance. I was expecting a root ball, but i Read more ... nstead only found five frail 6" roots and five lengths of new vine had sprouted out along the original. I never thought the plant was unhealthy, just not growing very fast. How can I encourage more/stronger roots? Have I gone wrong somewhere in my vine care? I'd snipped a few clippings to root and use in an improvised sump filter for my turtle tank before beginning to re-pot. When I discovered the root situation I cut the vines so each little root strand had 3 leaves and re-potted each 3-inch pots. The bits I took off are in water, fingers crossed for roots. It's been 4 days now and I've pinched off one floppy leaf, everything else is as firm and perky as it was when I began.
