This pair of storks (Malena, which means Little One, and her mate for the last 15 years Klepetan, rughly translated by me Read more ... as Chatterer) is famous, there is no one in our country who doesn't know of them. Stjepan Vokić has been taking care of her for the last 25 years because hunters shot her in the wing so she can't fly and migrate during winter. This year the male stork Klepetan was later than ever (even if it was just a few days) on his way home from Africa, and we all feared what happened to him. It was all over the news, too. Storks, as many other migratory birds, face grave danger and many are killed by people on their way. Mr. Vokić wrote a letter to the Lebanese presidend asking him to regulate hunting season (until after the migration). You can find out more in the petition on Change.org I am writing as a private citizen, solely because this story shocked me, I had no idea this happens in Lebanon, and since I first heard of Malena & Klepetan I thought the biggest challenges these birds (and others like their kind) face is the long and exhausting journey. I had no idea so many are killed for pleasure on their way and it breaks my heart. Please help them by spreading the word if you can. Thank you :)
