Quel che succede a Las Vegas rimane a Las Vegas. Di solito. Ma quando sei in un bar della Città del Peccato con le sei stelle di Magic Mike XXL - Channing Tatum (35), Matt Bomer (37), Joe Manganiello (38), Kevin Nash (55), Adam Rodriguez (40), e in esclusiva il nuovo arrivo Stephen "tWitch" Bosee (32) di So You Think You Can Dance - tutte le scommesse sono chiuse. Il sequel del successo del 2012 dello spogliarellista (liberamente ispirato ad un periodo della vita reale di Tatum) riprende tre anni più tardi e segue la banda in viaggio per un raduno di spogliarellisti in Florida. Per strada i ragazzi si imbattono in nuovi amici, tra cui Roma (Jada Pinkett Smith) proprietaria di club, il suo ballerino Malik (Boss), una seducente fotografa (Amber Heard), e una solitaria bellezza del Sud (Andie MacDowell).
Gli spettatori che trovarono il primo film un po’ troppo cupo, saranno soddisfatti di XXL che è molto più leggero, dal toni più libero, una rinnovata enfasi sulla dinamica di gruppo, oltre che un netto miglioramento dei numeri di danza. "Non volevamo ripetere noi stessi", dice il regista Gregory Jacobs, che ha preso il posto di Steven Soderbergh (che ha comunque curato la direzione della fotografia). "Avere l'opportunità di andare in un viaggio ci ha letteralmente permesso di intraprendere una direzione timbricamente diversa. Siamo stati più divertenti."
Il fatto di fare un sequel è un qualcosa ancora un po' scioccante per il cast, dato che il film originale è stato girato con un budget piccolo e con poca promozione. "Vincemmo proprio alla lotteria", dice Tatum del successo del primo film. "E non avevamo idea del come. Veramente, onestamente non ne avevamo idea. Non so se avremmo potuto vederlo". Aggiunge Manganiello," Mi ricordo che la Warner Bros. lo acquistò e annunciò che il film sarebbe il 4 luglio. Questo mi colpì. Pensai 'Oh mio Dio, che abbiamo appena fatto a queste ragazze, ora tutti lo vedranno."
Ma è stato un gioco da ragazzi per questi giovanotti tornare per una seconda volta. A quanto pare stare nudi è un collante per il cast. "Penso che ogni volta che si vuole formare un gruppo unito e solido come una roccia, fa' che tutti si spoglino", dice Bomer. "La fiducia scatta all’istante". Aggiunge Tatum, "Potrò sempre guardarli negli occhi ed dire 'Tu!' [ punta il dito lungo il tavolo] Se andasse dannatamente male, so chi è disposto a darci dentro senza giochi di parole.” "
Oltre ai drinks a Las Vegas, hanno glissato sul denudarsi, sul farsi male, sul mantenere certe cose… ehm… di grandi dimensioni anche in un ambiente molto freddo. E - poiché siamo dei geni -abbiamo saputo comunque qualcosa!
