The Superficial I enjoy the shit out of Gawker, and I absolutely respect their inclination to pop huge anti-establishment boners which some of their writers do incredibly well albeit with facts and well-written journalistic arguments based on those facts. Sam Biddle Read more ... , on the other hand, decided to swallow Seymour Hersh's latest screed whole, and when questioned about Hersh's scarce amount of sources along with their anonymity, he literally responded with this in the comments: "I mean, Seymour Hersh’s anonymous sources are not just 'anonymous sources.'" Holy hipster hell. I know I'm a guy who writes about celebrity tits for a living (And how!), but I actually do have a degree in journalism, and no. Fuck no. In the last few years, Seymour Hersh - who broke some very important stories and broke them well - has, to put it politely, gone off the goddamn deep end. There's a reason this wasn't published in The New Yorker, and it's because in the last several years Hersh accused George Bush of planning to bomb Iran if Obama won the presidency. (He didn't.) And then went on a rambling tirade about how the U.S. military is controlled by Opus Dei and the Knights of Malta. (It's not.) It's a fucking sad state of affairs that a journalist/aggregator should be aware of before going, "Well, this probably happened because Seymour Hersh." On the flip side of that coin, here's Max Fisher at Vox doing the work and breaking this shit down which Biddle flippantly dismissed as the work of "loyal Washingtonians." Because apparently Vox isn't cool enough to just fart out wholesale blockquotes and qualify it with, "I mean, it's like Seymour Hersh!"
