Hadhrat Khawaja Badruddin Khaled Wajoodi Quadri (رحمة لله علىـہ) is among the prominent Awliya-e-Kubar who were rewarded with special beneficence of Allah (swt). He was distinguished for exclusive training of his students / Murideen as per their understanding requirements. He was also famous for his unique style of explaining difficult issues in simple understandable terms. Above all he is one of the glittering stars of monotheism under whose light many found the right path of Islam. I have never seen a teacher with his characteristics, charity, discipline and dedication.
Hadhrat Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ) was born on June 26, 1879, corresponding to 6 Rajab, 1296 AH in erstwhile State of Hyderabad, India. His genealogical lineage meets with Hazrat Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) from mothers side in 29th generation.
His father, Hadhrat Awadh bin Sayeed Abillail (رحمة لله علىـہ) had migrated to Hyderabad from Yamen. Since his father was very honest and able military commander, he was appointed as Commanding Officer of the Elite Guard (Jammiat-e-Mahboob) at Ma'isrum, Hyderabad. He gradually reached to the position of ADC to the ruler of Hyderabad. Historians have mentioned his name and have applauded his selfless services to the State of Hyderabad. He was given the title of 'Jaan Nisaar Yaar Jung' by the then ruler of Hyderabad, Nawab Mahboob Ali Khan for his faithful services to the State.
Hadhrat Khaled's (رحمة لله علىـہ) childhood was spent in royal environment. His schooling was done in Hyderabad's well known schools. Later, he completed FA degree from Punjab University, North India and joined Government service in Hyderabad State.
At the age of 17, he took bay'a at the hands of Hadhrat Badashah Mohiuddin Wajoodi (رحمة لله علىـہ). Hazrat Wajoodi's (رحمة لله علىـہ) genealogical lineage meets with Hazrat Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) in 22nd generation.
Hazrat Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ) received Khilafah from his Shaikh Hadhrat Wajoodi (رحمة لله علىـہ) when he was 20 years old. He spent many years in the company of Hadhrat Wajoodi (رحمة لله علىـہ), and the Shaikh of Hadhrat Wajoodi (رحمة لله علىـہ); Hadhrat Khawaja Shamsuddin Quadri (رحمة لله علىـہ).
HADHRAT WAJOODI (رحمة لله علىـہ)
died on 9th December 1943, ( 11 Zul Hijja, 1362 AH) Thousands of his Murideen met after the death of their Shaikh and chose Hazrat Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ) unanimously as Shaikh's successor (Ja-e-Nasheen).
Hazrat Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ) continued in this capacity till his death.
Hadhrat Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ) was one of the greatest teacher of his era. He used to explain Islamic issues in very simple terms. I was 20 years old when I took bay'a on the hands of Shaikh Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ). Soon I realized that understanding capacity of the people gets multiplied when they sit in his company listening to his simple explanations.
Hadhrat Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ) continued teaching at his residence during his Government service and after retirement.
Peoples' education sessions were held daily. There used to be a large gathering on Sundays in the open area outside his Barkas residence where hundreds of people used to gather to listen to their revered Shaikh.
Teaching sessions, specially on Sundays, used to be very long. There were no restrictions on people's attendance. Recital of his poetry on Tawheed was also done during these sessions. Everyone was welcomed. Hundreds of people were treated like special guests of the Shaikh's residence and provided with luncheon and sometimes dinner. He was always available to listen to people and their problems. Visitors were never denied audience of the Shaikh. Everyone was served food or tea any time of the Day. It looked the kitchen at Shaikh's residence was working 24/7. Shaikh never expected anything from the people. At times there was no need to tell him about the problem. Shaikh used to suggest solutions as general talk and people used to get replies to their questions without uttering a single word.
I observed that whenever we used to sit in his company, all irrelevant thoughts used to get disappeared from mind. And when we return home, we used to feel composed, satisfied, happy and peaceful at mind and all our worldly worries used to get vanished momentarily.
Hadhrat Khaled (رحمة لله علىـہ) was one of the greatest Shaikhs of Tazkia Nafs. People's attitudes used to get changed dramatically when they listened to his simple observations. His style of education was interactive and as per the requirements of individual people.
Hundreds of people used to visit him daily, and everyone used to feel that the Shaikh's special attention is towards him. He used to give bay'a in Quadri Silsila and Khalifah in both Chishti and Quadri lineages.
Shaikh was one of the greatest poet of his time. He has written over 600 Hamd, Na'at and Eulogies which have been compiled by me and published.
The compilation of his Urdu and Persian poetry titled "Khiyaalistaan-e-Khaled" was published in September 2000. This compilation will be made available to our Urdu readers on this site soon.
Hadhrat Khaled Wajoodi (رحمة لله علىـہ) died on January 31, 1988, (11 Jumada II, 1408 AH) at the age of 109 years. Thousands of his Murideen and well wishers attended his funeral.
