I pulled off the highway as soon as I could and got cold, wet paper towels to put on my chest, but I had to be in Natchez for a conference and could not turn around and go back to the restaurant. When I got home from the conference, I called that McDonalds and asked what the coffee serving temperature was. The person on the phone told me 210 degrees. I almost fainted. That is 2 degrees below boiling. I then, for comparison, called a local Chick-fil-A and asked them the same thing. Their response was 180 degrees, which is still hot, but with added cream, should not be scalding. I did not sue McDonalds. But they apparently did not learn their lesson--at least not the one I went to. See attached picture of my second degree burns.
