Read more ... ecent years our government is trying to instead make it into a legal tradition by granting hunters permits for killing wolves. Now the hunt is being justified as "population control" but it is not. One of the goals is to target young wolves and so called "pest wolves" (which would be??). There are 46 so called "exception permits" granted to hunters all around Finland( in some cases, wolves have even been lured towards private properties intentionally in order for more permits to be granted). The total number of wolves in Finland is estimated to be only around 225-245. Now, after three days of hunting 11 wolves have been killed and 6 of them are likely to be alpha wolves. This hunt will be a catastrophe for Finland's already small wolf population.
