Stop Acid Attacks PRESS INFORMATION: Take a faceless selfie. Donate A Face to an #AcidAttack survivor. #SHARE to help. Donate a Face, an innovative campaign will be launched to raise funds for acid attack survivors by #StopAcidAttacks in association with Cheil India. Read more ... The core idea of the campaign is giving up one’s vanity during the campaign period by taking a faceless selfie. It involves covering one’s face with a sheet of paper on which is written donateaface.org. Posting it on facebook/twitter etc. as one’s profile picture with #donateaface, nominating friends to take the challenge and donating money on the site. The campaign idea arises from the fact in India there are at least 3 acid attacks in a week. The monetary compensation of Rs 3 lakhs given to the survivors isn’t sufficient for the multiple rounds of surgery the survivors need to undergo. “At our events people watch our members abnormally. Unknowingly they even pass some remarks that hurt our members. So we want to involve people to create awareness about the consequences of acid attack - the medical and social trauma one encounters" says Alok, co-founder of Stop Acid Attacks. Mr. Nima DT Namchu, Chief Creative Officer of Cheil Southwest Asia HQ feels the campaign will put the spotlight on the problems faced by the survivors - the expensive medical procedures, the lack of judicial support or any specific laws for perpetrators; and the fact that the compensation given by the government is simply not enough. “It is based on the insight of how much people love to take selfies; and turns it into an engagement idea to raise funds for hundreds of survivors. It is an activity that involves giving up on one’s face on social media, going to the site and contributing to the cause.” The campaign uses the power of social media to reach out to the people through innovative platforms like thunderclap.it to gather support for the acid attack survivors. The #DonateAFace will continue for the next two months. Leading bloggers, celebrities apart from the people at large are expected to support the campaign. #SHARE CNN Washington Post The New York Times Al Jazeera English BBC World News NDTV The Times of India Indian Express The Hindu IBN7 IBN Lokmat Aaj Tak DNA India Dainik Jagran Amar Ujala ABP News Headlines Today Youth Ki Awaaz CNN-IBN Tehelka India Today Rajasthan Patrika Dainik Bhaskar Navbharat Times Online Punjab Kesari Jansatta Hindustan Times Fever 104 FM Delhi The Atlantic Channel 4 News
