"Day of Freedom") is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed on 12 June, commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on 12 June 1898. It is the country's National Day. History[edit] Main article: History of the Philippines (1898–1946) See also: Philippine Declaration of Independence The Flag of the United States of America is lowered while the Flag of the Philippines is raised during the Independence Day ceremonies on July 4, 1946 The Philippine Revolution began in August 1896. In December 1897, the Pact of Biak-na-Bato, an agreement between the Spanish colonial government and the revolutionaries, created a truce between the parties. Under terms of this agreement, Emilio Aguinaldo and other revolutionary leaders went into exile in Hong Kong.[2] At the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, Commodore George Dewey sailed from Hong Kong to Manila Bay leading the Asiatic Squadron of the U.S. Navy. On May 1, 1898, the Dewey defeated the Spanish in the Battle of Manila Bay. Later that month, the U.S. Navy transported Aguinaldo back to the Philippines.[3] On June 12, 1898, Aguinaldo led the declaration of Philippine independence from Spanish colonial rule. Philippines independence was not recognized either by the United States of America or by Spain. The Spanish government later ceded the Philippine archipelago to the United States in the 1898 Treaty of Paris. The Philippines Revolutionary Government did not recognize the treaty. When the Americans sought to execute the terms of the treaty, a three-year conflict, now called the Philippine-American War, ensued.[4][5] The US granted independence to the Philippines on 4 July 1946 through the Treaty of Manila.[6] 4 July, the date chosen by the United States because it corresponds to its Independence Day, was observed in the Philippines as Independence Day until 1962. On 12 May 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal issued Presidential Proclamation No. 28, which declared Tuesday, 12 June a special public holiday throughout the Philippines, "... in commemoration of our people's declaration of their inherent and inalienable right to freedom and independence.[7]" On 4 August 1964, Republic Act No. 4166 renamed the 4 July holiday as "Philippine Republic Day", proclaimed 12 June as "Philippine Independence Day", and enjoined all citizens of the Philippines to observe the latter with befitting rites.[8] Prior to 1964, 12 June had been observed as Flag Day, which was moved to 28 May (the date the Philippine Flag was first flown in battle in Alapan, Imus, Cavite in 1898). Williams Dear Warrior Family, Recently I was named as the new principal of the Plano Academy High School for the 2014-2015 school year. With my passion for collaboration and 21st Century Learning, this change of course in my professional journey is an excit Read more ... ing one! Still, once a Warrior…always a Warrior, and I do have some heartache over leaving my kiddos and my school family. Our strong and loving team of teachers will be led by Principal Gloria Martinez, who has served as principal for the last 5 years at Bowman Middle School. During her tenure at the middle school, the staff under Ms. Martinez’s leadership has improved student performance earning distinctions in Reading, Math, and Student Achievement in our state performance system. Moreover, Bowman MS was one of 8 campuses to earn the title of Texas Schools to Watch during the 2013-2014 school year. Ms. Martinez entered the teaching profession as an ESL middle school teacher following her graduation from Sul Ross State University in 1997. She embarked in school leadership as assistant principal and principal in southwest Texas earning her Master of Education in School Administration degree in 2001from Sul Ross as well. Ms. Martinez joined Plano ISD in 2005 and has served as curriculum coordinator, assistant principal and principal. As a student advocate and longtime servant to this community, Ms. Martinez will continue to grow the legacy of Williams High School. As I reflect on my four years in Warrior Country, I am so proud of our students and staff. The growth and change that this campus has experienced is tremendous. Beyond its state earned distinctions in Academic Achievement in Reading and English Language Arts and earning Top 25 Percent for Student Progress, we have reinvented ourselves as a school! From collaboration spaces and technology integration to the opening of the Health Sciences Academy and the Graduation Mindset initiative, Williams High School truly is a model campus. I have served each day according to my guiding quote: “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.” ~ President Woodrow Wilson. I will continue to cheer for our students and look forward to all they will achieve in the future. Yours in school spirit, Lynn Ojeda

Esther 7:7-8, "And the King arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. Then the king returned out of he palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was (begging for his life). Then saith the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the WORD went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's (annoying) face (and put an end to him FOREVER)."
