Uwapei Global Warming Campaign Enough is enough! The native people of FAR islands (Faraulep Atoll) in State of Yap, Micronesia go online to fight the global warming and raise international awareness about the impact of climate change on low atolls in the Pacific. Please join and s Read more ... hare this page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Uwapei-Global-Warming-Campaign/1614051862144036 “On May 1, 2015 in Harmon Village on Guam, exactly 1 month after Typhoon Maysak devastated our home islands in Feshailap Atoll, we, the Uwapei Tribe, have established Uwapei Global Warming Campaign. WE ARE DRAWING THE LINE HERE! We can no longer sit and watch while our islands of Feshailap (Felalap, Piig, and Yate) disappear into the abyss of global warming. WE ARE DRAWING THE LINE HERE!” (Sam Illesugam / Administrator of Uwapei Global Warming Campaign) - - - The Uwapei Global Warming Campaign is a peaceful public campaign, which exists to encourage people around the world to reduce pollution and alert the public about the impact of climate change on low atolls in the Pacific, mainly focusing the three tiny remote islands of Faraulep Atoll (“FAR Islands”) located in State of Yap, Federated States of Micronesia, which might be considered as one of the last frontier in the Pacific Ocean. Faraulep Atoll is located over 700 kilometers east of Yap. The atoll is inhabited by around 200 indigenous people from the Uwapei tribe, which are in high risk of losing their islands because of erosion due to rising sea level caused by global warming. Our aim is to raise awareness of the ongoing destruction of our three home islands Feshailap, Piig and Yate located in Faraulep Atoll. The largest island in the atoll is Feshailap with the size of 700 x 400 meter; the smallest is Piig with the size of 400 x 400 meter. The only way to go to the islands is by ship operated by State of Yap, the ship depart from Yap every second month, the schedule is difficult to predict. The Uwapei Global Warming Campaign was founded in Guam on the 1th of May 2015, one month after super Typhoon Maysak came with a speed of 135 miles per hour, and hit our paradise islands with destruction. The Campaign is administrated by people of Uwapei ´s tribe, who have left the islands and now live on other pacific islands. We work with politicians of all parties, NGOs, campaign groups, individuals and organizations, both national and international, towards this aim. We have no religious, party-political or corporate affiliations, and we are determinedly non-violent. Our funding comes from donations and fundraising in order to support our people who are still living on the island, and also for possible relocation of the atoll population if needed, so the future generations of the Uwapei tribe have a place of their own to stay when our islands disappear. We are entirely independent, and nobody at the campaign is paid for their work.
